The Criminal Prosecution Division

This division is responsible for prosecution of all criminal offences in all the Courts, Magistrate, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court throughout the country. In order to carry out its functions nationwide, there are three (3) Prosecuting Counsel assigned to the three administrative regions: one each in the Northern, Southern and Eastern regions. More importantly, the Criminal Prosecuting Counsel act as Customary Law Officers within their respective areas of operation. The Criminal Prosecution has maintained its traditional role in prosecuting matters and providing opinion to the Police who, under the AGMJ’s instructions, can prosecute criminal cases in Magistrate Courts, though most serious offences are prosecuted in the Magistrate Court by Prosecuting Counsel. All offences in the Superior Courts are prosecuted by these Counsel. Since the start of this year, 2016, the number of cases for which indictments has been filed, including the regions stand as follow: Cases completed between January and December 2016
